50 ha Mangrove Plantation as Bio-shield
For the plantation of mangrove, two sites in Miani Hor were selected in consultation with community and Forest Department. Plantation of mangrove was planned to be undertaken in an area of 50 ha which will act as a bio-shield for the coastal settlement. Two sites that have been selected for plantation are Abowari (in front of Damb and Sonmiani) and Mathrow in front of Bera. These sites are considered ideal as they are right in front of the settlement and can act as be bio-shield in case of any diasater. Since women of the coastal communities were generally involved in cutting of mangrove for fodder, therefore, they were offered to be involved in plantation activities. Women actively participated in this endeavor. Now these women are role model for other community members and more and more women from other communities have followed their steps and joined in the mangrove plantation activities. During the training session women offered to contribute in plantation of mangroves. A few male community members were also involved in plantation.
