Water Supply Social Welfare Scheme at Tehsil Dureji, District Lasbela
Project Supported by: Pakistan Petroleum Limited PPL
The proposed project area is very backward, hilly, and remote i.e. It often faces famine conditions due to drought in the area. The existing drinking water sources are stored ponds locally known as Dhoris and dug wells . Which receives water from rainfall. Due to long drought conditions and continuous water fetching from these dhoris and dug wells water of these sources comes at a shortage end, thus becomes polluted and hazardous to human health and is not fit for human consumption. The people of the target area are poor and cannot effort water bore in their respective villages on their own. People especially women have to fetch the water from the wells at a distance of more than 2 or 3 kilometers. The mail segment of the population from the households go to earn their livelihood, leaving rest of the household work to be done by women and children. So it poses a threat to their health that, they spend their time i.e. 2-3 hours daily only for fetching water for their household and livestock. Besides, there is another threat from the well water, which is contamination. Due to water leaves, dirt and worms fall in those and make water contaminated. Due to water contamination people fall into many abdominal and communicable diseases i.e. diarrhea, gastro, tuberculosis, ulcer and Hepatitis B and C. If the immediate and proper steps will not be taken, the area is expected to be seen in worse conditions. This source of water from the faraway dug wells and the dhoris is a temporary facility. It comes to an end when the water table goes below due to drought. Thus causing the reason of migration and the displacement of the communities. The project will be provided of 8 Water Supply Schemes to Eights Villages.
